White House Initiative
April 11, 2023
We attended the April 11th, 2023 White House Initiative on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders. The event provided for federal agencies, and local leaders, for the fourth in a series of summits, to connect AA and NHPI community members directly with federal leaders and resources.


ESBOCES Diversity Fair
March 25th, 2023
Sequoyah High School, Holtsville, NY- On Saturday, March 25, 2023 APACE-LI continued membership and community outreach efforts at the Eastern Suffolk BOCES Career Fair for Culturally and Ethnically Diverse Educators. Teachers, Student Support Professionals and Educational Leader candidates were warmly welcomed. The day provided an opportunity to network with members, discuss interview skills, review resumés, and learn more about APACE-LI. Attendees were provided an informational brochure (see it to the left) for future reference, which included contact information.

NYSABE Holds Its 45th Annual Conference and we were there.....
This past month, our own Soh Young Lee-Segredo was invited to multiple events at the 45th NYSABE Conference which was held on March 16 to 18, 2023. She attended as:
-
the leader of the Hempstead School District's Jackson Main Annex World School Choir's conference opening performance
-
an educator teaching a session on "How to apply Multiple Intelligences Therory in the Classroom", and
-
to receive NYSABE's "Bilingual Teacher of the Year"!!
NYSABE were planning a space in which they could come together as a learning community to focus on the unique needs of their multilingual learners (MLLs) and their families as a way of empowering them to ensure they reach their maximum potential. The conference featured workshops, speakers, and informational sessions highlighting current instructional, social-emotional, and education-related issues that we are facing. They also engaged in conversations on how, we as a learning community, are transforming education to ensure diversity, inclusivity, and equity.
The Beloved Community, an MLK Anti-Hate Event .....
This coming January 15th, in line with Martin Luther King's Birthday celebrations, Temple Beth Shalom of Roslyn will be holding an afternoon of presentations all exhibiting how our diversity help us attaining the 'Beloved Community' that MLK spoke about as an all inclusive sisterhood and brotherhood. Our members of Soh Young Lee-Segredo and her husband, Gustavo will both be bringing their talents to the event.

MEMBERS HONORED BY SUFFOLK COUNTY...
Two of our members were honored on May 21st, at the 2022 Suffolk County Asian American Pacific Islanders Heritage Month Celebration. Randy K. Young, M.S. Ed. and Dr. Mary Waring were among the eight honorees celebrated by the Suffolk County Asian American Advisory Board (SCAAAB).
Further, our founder and President acted as the celebration's MC, as well as, performer.
Honorees received citations from Suffolk County officials for their work with AAPI communities across Long Island. Please enjoy video content from the event.
